VANCOUVER, B.C.: The No TransLink Tax campaign is in the home stretch, ramping up social media advertising and person-to-person contacts to encourage the two-thirds of people who haven’t voted yet in the TransLink tax plebiscite to make their voices heard.
“We’re putting our last few thousand dollars into targeted ads and working with our NO supporters to go out and find people who haven’t voted yet,” said Jordan Bateman, No TransLink Tax spokesperson. “The TransLink Mayors, meanwhile, are blowing through $7 million in taxpayer dollars, trying to buy votes with our money. The only way to stop their cynical attempt is to cast a NO ballot, and find others to do the same.”
Bateman noted that only 16 days remain for individuals who have not received their ballots, or have misplaced them, to get a new one from Elections BC. Individuals can ask for a voting package at 1-800-661-8683 or www.elections.bc.ca/ovr before May 15. Voting can proceed until May 29, but new ballots won’t be issued after the 15th.
Further, all ballots must be received by Elections BC by May 29 – it’s not enough to have them postmarked by that date. For that reason, the No TransLink Tax campaign is recommending that all NO votes be in the mail soon to give them ample time to get to Elections BC.
From mid-May on, NO voters should go to one of Elections BC’s nine plebiscite offices to ensure their vote is counted.
“We know some folks pay their bills at the end of the month, and their ballots may be stacked in that pile,” said Bateman. “Don’t delay – get that NO vote in. Let’s stop the TransLink Mayors from buying this tax hike with our money.”
